In the Spring of 1282 Kaitlin Wakefield was a proper English maiden who made a poor decision. She went to visit her grandmother but was caught trespassing on the Scottish property of Laird Nicholas de Rothirfore. As her punishment for this misdeed she was sent to Laird Rothirfore's widowed brother Aidan Rothirfore for one month. While there she was to attend to his baby Kylee and no more, but this did not stop Kaitlin from pursuing change around the manor. What she did not expect is to find the love of her young life despite the bad blood between the two families. There was mystery and mayhem surrounding things that had happened prior to her birth but things that did not stop the brothers from hating anything bearing the name Wakefield.
Kaitlin tries to fight her growing feelings for Aidan knowing that nothing but bad can come from a relationship with the sworn enemy of her family but love him she does. Though Aidan fights his feelings for her, he too gives in to the love and affection he feels for Kaitlin. While they both try to work through the family dynamics there is more death and misery brought upon both families that tries to drive them apart.
What transpires between these two is nothing short of a Romeo and Juliet love with both families fighting to keep them apart. While their love is strong it must survive both deception and evil from forces neither know or understand. Even Aidan's mother does her best to stop any impending nuptials and works toward not allowing her son the happiness he finds in Kaitlin's arms.
This story is one of tender love in a time of turbulence between two people that were meant to be together but had everything working to keep them apart. It is worth the read and the additional books in the trilogy should be as entertaining and riveting as this one.
